Dementia patient hit by train in White Rock

By

WHITE ROCK (NEWS1130) – An elderly man is badly hurt after wandering away from a care home and getting hit by train.

It happened in White Rock around 8 o’clock last night.

The 79-year-old has dementia and had been staying at a home not far from where the accident happened on Marine Drive near Bay Street.

RCMP Inspector Brian Massie tells us the man was responsive before being airlifted to a nearby hospital. “He’s got some fairly significant head trauma and the last check with hospital was that he was in stable condition.”

Massie says it’s too early to tell if any sort of negligence is involved with the man getting away from the home. “That’s something that investigators would possibly look at. If it’s determined that there’s something criminal here, that’s something we would follow up on.”
