BURNABY (NEWS1130) – BC community health workers have ratified a five-year contract, voting 79 per cent in favour of the deal.
Close to 15,000 workers, covered by the Community Health Bargaining Association, will get a 5.5 per cent wage increase over the life of the contract. The new contract also provides improvements to health and welfare benefits, the retention of current employment security levels and protection against contracting out.
CUPE calls this agreement a small but vital step in the ongoing struggle for respect and recognition.
The CBA covers several other unions including the BCGEU and HEU.
