No promise of class size resolution by September

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s education minister insists the province wants to deal with a court appeal on class size and composition as quickly as possible.
But there are no guarantees this will be resolved before the start of the next school year.
Contract talks are scheduled to resume next week, but with an appeal still yet to be heard, the union has called on the province to get a court date soon to ensure certainty for the next school year.
Peter Fassbender notes the courts control the calendar, but says the government wants to deal with it expeditiously. “We’re just as anxious to keep this moving, but in the meantime, we’re continuing to be at the table with the BCTF and that is really our goal.”
“I would hope that the court process would not stall the talks. We’re focused on student outcomes and wanting to look at a negotiated settlement,” he adds.
Premier Christy Clark says the government also want to ensure its legal case is thorough.
