Whitecaps promise offensive surge will continue

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A four goal offensive outburst on the weekend is a sign of things to come according to many of the Whitecaps players. The team practiced this afternoon at UBC as they continue to prepare for Sunday’s match against Chivas USA in California.
The Whitecaps came out flying last weekend and surprised many with an aggressive offensive style that led to a 4-1 win over the New York Red Bulls. Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker thinks the team will continue to play a high-tempo style.
“We always want to be an attacking team and play attacking football. We want to play a quick transition to get forward and make that forward pass. With two or three passes you can be in an opponents box to create a chance. That is something the manager has said from the beginning of the season. That is something we work on everyday. It is not just about possession for the sake of it, it is about creating chances and scoring goals.”
Defender Jordan Harvey says the Whitecaps need to be just as aggressive in their first road game of 2014.
“This last weekend we had the goals, but we still maintained possession and then we built on it. We scored four goals. I think that is the kind of mentality that you have to have on the road. Whether you are up or whether you are down you have to keep plugging away and it will pay off down the road.”
Head Coach Carl Robinson likes that team’s are having a hard time figuring out what kind of team the Whitecaps will be.
“If you are playing against us it is very difficult to know what we are going to do. We have so many good players at the moment fighting for places on the team. We have options, which is what I talked about at the start of camp. We have different players in different areas with different techniques and different styles, it is a good problem to have.”
Vancouver will have a training session tomorrow morning before departing for California. Sunday’s game time is at 4:30 p.m..
