Car catches on fire in Vancouver’s Chinatown due to gas vapour

A car ignited into flames around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night in Vancouver’s Chinatown neighbourhood due to gas vapour in the cabin of the car.

A man was storing multiple jerry cans filled with gas in his car when he lit a cigarette. This quickly ignited into flames, engulfing the car, say Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

The 38-year-old man was able to get out of his car with minor burns, with BC Emergency Health Services transporting him to hospital.

Two cars that were nearby were also damaged from the flames.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services investigated and the fire was deemed accidental.
