New therapy approved for those suffering from MS

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There’s a new therapy on the market for those suffering from Multiple Sclerosis which impacts more than 100,000 Canadians.
Lemtrada has been approved here in Canada for patients.
Dr. Anthony Traboulsee is a neurologist at UBC.
He says the new drug only treats relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. “It seems to be most effective in people with newly relatively newly diagnosed MS, that’s roughly within 10 years of onset of the disease and that’s just an approximation.”
Traboulsee says they’ve seen some great results in their own trials.
“I’ve been very impressed with how well people have done. They’ve only had two years of treatment, and that’s about five days in the first year, three days in the second year, and they’ve gone for years without taking any further medication, not having any symptoms and some of their old symptoms have improved. It’s really quite remarkable.”
MS is one of the most common neurological diseases on the planet.
Canada has one of the highest rates of the disease in the world.
