VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’ve ever had to duck out of work for a job interview, there’s a good chance you didn’t tell the truth.
A poll looking at the top excuses for leaving work for an interview showed 44 per cent of us thought claiming a trip to the doctor’s office was the best option to cover up what we were really doing.
But Arturo Gallo with Monster.ca says sometimes coming clean can be a good thing.
He suggests you may actually perform better in your interview if you do.
“If you’re also going for the job interview, you’re going to feel less stressed about it, because when you sneak and you know, you’re rushed with the time, that’s against you.”
Gallo adds you don’t have to lie, but don’t have to reveal where you’re going.
“You can say, oh I have an appointment, I have a commitment, which is very neutral, instead of saying, you know, I have to go to a job interview.”
Fifteen per cent of us said faking a cold or other illness was the best excuse.
Childcare came in third at 12 per cent.
