Owners, supporters gather to remember dead dogs

LADNER (NEWS1130) – The memory of six dead dogs was alive and well today at a dog park in Ladner.

For two years, Jennifer Myers’ life revolved around her French bulldog, Buddy, making sure he was properly cared for, and that’s why she employed a dog walker now implicated in the death of six dogs last month.

“We’re just here today, to celebrate all of the dogs: the ones that we’ve lost but also every other person’s dog. We’re hoping that the dogs here will enjoy the park as much as our puppies did. Buddy was my dog and I know that he absolutely loved this park, he loved rolling in the mud and making a mess of everything.”

Myers says Crown needs to make an example of the woman, who left the dogs to die and then dumped their bodies in a ditch in Abbotsford.

“I would like to see some jail time and a life-time ban on animals would be fantastic because this just shows how much she did care, which is not so much. But a lifetime ban on animals and some jail time would be fantastic but I don’t know if it will go that way.”

Myers acknowledges this case is quite rare, but she believes it would be helpful if dog walkers were required to have pet first aid and proper vehicles for animal care.

Barbara Brintnell and her dog were there to honour the canines and their owners.

“It’s heartbreaking for all of us, particularly dog owners because we love our dogs and to think the type of ending these dogs had is just so heartbreaking. They didn’t deserve to have their dogs die like this.”

Six charges of animal cruelty have been recommended against the dogwalker.
