Seahawks jersey sales eclipse Canucks gear

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Maybe we aren’t “all Canucks“, some of us seem to identify with the 12th man as Canadian fans flock to Seattle to cheer on the Seahawks as they start their playoff run. Sports stores in Vancouver say Hawks wear is outselling Canucks gear for the first time.

Canucks apparel used to take up a whole wall at VanCity Sports downtown, but now it’s been relegated to an area one quarter the size.

Seahawks jerseys have replaced them.

They’ve always had Seahawks merch, but John Czvelka with VanCity Sports says Seahawks stuff has been outselling Canucks stuff for a few months now. “They’re all gonna watch the game, whether they go to a house party or they go to a local pub. Some of the lucky ones who have tickets will go to the game. They are excited. They are hoping that they’ll repeat again.”

Czvelka wonders if slow sales at his store signal slumping support for Vancouver’s number one franchise. He says he’s had to increase his order. “Last year and this year we did go heavier with having women’s T-shirts, women’s jerseys. We’ve got toddler, infant, youth, so we do have a variety of merchandise of clothing as well as hard goods like big flags, car flags the zombies, ticket stubs, the toques, the hats, the scarves and we still have a good selection.”

He says the toques the Seahawks wear on the sidelines are the number one seller.
