VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s going to be a busy long weekend at the ferries, as many people get away for BC Day.
Deborah Marshall with BC Ferries says they are ready for extra travellers.
“This is probably our busiest long weekend of the year. We do expect lots of traffic. We do have lots of extra sailings on the major routes, as well as an extra vessel service in the Southern Gulf Islands,” she tells us.
“A lot of the reservations have been fully subscribed for the peak times. That’s typical for a long weekend. People do plan in advance,” she adds.

There are also expected to be long line-ups at the border crossings.
Dennis Tolfo with the Canada Border Services Agency says if you’re heading to the US, make sure you’re prepared.
“My best advice for travellers is to travel early to avoid peak travel times, which begin around 5 p.m. Have all your documents and identification ready for the officers. And declare all the goods you acquired while you were away.”
He adds this is one the busiest times of the year for them as they process tens of thousands of cars every day.
