MEDINA, MINN. (NEWS 1130) – The rock singer who rose to fame as the frontman of the Stone Temple Pilots has died. Scott Weiland was just 48. He was found dead on a tour bus in Minnesota last night, shortly before he was set to perform. The show was cancelled.
“You know when he was on, he was a really enigmatic performer and you couldn’t take your eye off of him,” says Aaron Chapman with the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver.
Chapman remembers when Weiland played the venue back in 2009. “There were a lot of walk-outs that night I remember. A lot of STP fans had come to see some of that magic and that was completely burnt out.”
Weiland had a well-known struggle with both alcohol and drugs and had been in rehab. “There is a lot of wreckage on that highway of people who have gone the chemical distance and never returned and he’s the most recent addition to that club, I hate to say.”
The cause of death is not being released right now, a statement on Facebook from Weiland’s representative says he passed away in his sleep.
