Fake tickets becoming a common sight: VPD

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Social media has been buzzing with stories of people getting scammed after trying to buy tickets to events like the Justin Bieber concert.

Sergeant Randy Fincham with the VPD says this kind of crime is becoming more common.

“Unfortunately, we are still seeing an increase in the number of fraudulent tickets that are being purchased for virtually every event that is happening in Vancouver, whether it is a concert or a major sporting event,” he explains.

“Seems to be there is a fairly well organized group who are sending people out to sell these tickets on their behalf. We have made a number of arrests but for everyone that we do arrest, there is another one popping up.”

He warns people to be very careful when buying from second-hand sites and suggests looking up the seller’s number online, checking comments from other buyers and making the transaction in a public place with cameras.
