UPDATE: James Patrick Benson has been arrested in Coquitlam.
VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver Police say they’re on the lookout for a high-risk sex offender who ran away from his halfway house.
A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for 36-year-old James Patrick Benson.
He’s a two-time federal offender with a history of violent offences.
“He does have a conviction for attempted murder, sexual assault with a weapon, some other violent offences he’s been convicted of. He’s someone we don’t want anyone approaching,” says VPD Constable Brian Montague.
He was granted statutory release yesterday and his supervision order includes several conditions. But police say he ran from his Vancouver halfway house.
“If anyone knows where he is or sees him on the streets of Vancouver, they’re asked not to approach him at all. Pick up the phone and call 9-1-1 immediately,” adds Montague.
Benson is described as white, 5’10” and 200 lbs with brown hair and brown eyes. He has several tattoos including the numbers 011707 on his left wrist, the word “MORBID” on his left forearm, “LOST SOUL” on his chest, and red stars on both shoulders.
