Meghan Trainor performs for enthusiastic crowd in Cape Breton community

PORT HAWKESBURY, N.S. – Thousands of people packed a field in a small Cape Breton community to hear pop star Meghan Trainor perform at a free concert this week.

Fans gathered at the Port Hawkesbury recreation grounds Thursday to see the Grammy Award winning artist belt out some of her hit songs, “All About That Bass,” “No” and “Lips Are Movin.”

The town won the right to host the concert after beating out other Canadian communities in the Air Miles’ online Detour contest.

The singer-songwriter took to the stage at about 9 p.m. and performed for more than an hour in front of a crowd she said was estimated to be about 11,000 people.

It’s believed it was the biggest event to be held in the town of about 3,500 people, but police say there were no major incidents or delays.

People in the area said hotels filled up quickly soon after tickets became available for the outdoor concert.
