VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A citizen political group is launching a new website for British Columbians to nominate independent candidates ahead of the spring provincial election.
Imagine X believes the site will appeal to voters frustrated with what they call the province’s ‘divisive two-party system’.
Fred Bantados is a spokesperson with Imagine X.
He says his group believes that there are frustrated voters and potentially exceptional candidates in BC do not find their values reflected in the current partisan options and want an alternative.
“People are paying attention. they’re certainly frustrated with the options that they currently have. They’re actively looking for alternatives. People can make a difference, people don’t have to follow the status quo, people can be disruptive, and they need to voice that if they want change,” says Bantados.
“We see independents as very good alternatives to the current list of NDP and Liberal candidates. We want more independent thought.”
He says anyone can submit new nominees and endorse existing nominees on the website, adding nominees must not already be affiliated with an existing political party.
The nomination platform is not affiliated with and does not replace, any nomination procedures required by Elections BC.
