NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Four decades ago, passengers were able to step onto a SeaBus for a fifteen minute ride to and from the North Shore for the first time.
City of North Vancouver Mayor Darrell Mussatto argues the North Shore would not have been able to grow like it has without the SeaBus, adding many commuters and visitors rely on it.
“Upwards of 50 per cent of the riders in the summer are tourists that come over to check out our city and then take buses from here up to places like Grouse Mountain or Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge,” he says.
Looking ahead, Mussatto hopes the service will be increased so a vessel leaves every ten minutes within the next two or three years.
“We really hope that we can increase the service as we had outlined, and maybe ultimately, one day, have a fixed link Skytrain connection” running under the Burrard Inlet.
He says that idea has been discussed, but not researched.
