Lower Mainland RCMP officer charged with assault

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – An RCMP officer has been charged with assault over an arrest in Surrey earlier this year.

Corporal Todd Abram, with the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services, was supporting the arrest of a man for property-related offences at a home in Surrey on March 31st. After the arrest, police received information that an officer may have assaulted the man being arrested.

An investigation by the Surrey RCMP Professional Standards Unit resulted in a report being sent to the BC Prosecution service for an assessment of criminal charges. Abram has now been charged with one count of assault. He’s on administrative duties, but that is subject to ongoing review.

He will be appearing in Surrey Provincial Court on a date yet to be determined.
