LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – The boy who was hit during a car chase involving suspected thieves and someone trying to stop them in Langley on Tuesday is apparently doing better.
An email from the school the 12-year-old goes to suggests he’s going to be okay, despite being in critical condition yesterday.
The seventh-grader was struck during a pursuit that ended near 40th Avenue and 204th Street.
It began when two men apparently stole some tools from a construction site and then speed off in an SUV. A man in a pickup truck then gave chase; the RCMP say the two vehicles were going at “high rates of speed and not obeying traffic control devices.”
The SUV apparently blew through a stop sign and hit the boy, who was riding his bike across the street.
Charges are being recommended against the two men who were in the SUV.
Email from Belmont Elementary School to parents:
Dear Parents and Guardians of Belmont Elementary:
As you are likely aware, a Grade 7 Belmont Student was struck by a car Tuesday night. The student is injured but will be okay and is being cared for in hospital. The incident resulted in disruptions to traffic last night and was the result of an RCMP situation that occurred elsewhere in Brookswood.
Though the family appreciates the support of the Belmont community, it is requested that you refrain from calling or emailing at this time. Cards will be collected at the Belmont school office and get-well wishes will be forwarded.
Counseling services have been made available to students today and I encourage you to discuss with your child how he/she may be feeling. If you think your child needs additional support, please do not hesitate to contact the school office at (604) 533-3641.
Sincerely,
Beth Cairnie
Principal, Belmont Elementary School
