NORTH SHORE (NEWS 1130) – North Shore Rescue crews spent their Sunday scouring the back-country, investigating two cold cases.
Carl Couture went missing on Oct 31, 2017 after hiking in the Haynes Valley area. Snow-shoers Roy Lee and Chun Sek Lam went missing on Christmas Day in 2016 near Cypress.
The team didn’t find anything over the weekend. Team Leader Mike Danks says crews do these types of searches often, in an effort to bring closure to the victims’ families.
“We’re really making a point now of tracking all the information that comes in, any clues that are found — we just keep working on them and gathering more information and narrowing down the search areas.”
Danks is also asking the public to help out.
“If you see articles of clothing or a boot or anything like that when you’re out hiking, please make a note of where exactly it is, and call the local RCMP or West Van police to let them know. We’ll definitely follow up on it.”
Looking ahead, Danks says you need to plan ahead to avoid getting lost this summer.
“It always comes down to doing research on the hike that you’re going to do, making sure it’s appropriate to your fitness level, [and] letting someone know when and where you are intending on going.”
You should also bring an extra light source, a fully charged cell phone, or a satellite device.
