No air advisory in Vancouver following Richmond fire, fireworks

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Despite hazy skies in Vancouver, Environment Canada says it’s not bad enough to issue an air quality warning.
Meteorologist Michel Gelinas says a brush fire in Richmond and the Celebration of Light fireworks aren’t expected to cause any major problems.
“There’s no question, locally it will be smokey. But it wont be a city wide thing that would necessitate an advisory.”
Gelinas says the worst of the smoke we experienced from the fire is over.
“The smoke that we had yesterday basically has thinned out enough that we will stay below levels that would require an advisory. There will be local smoke due to the fireworks and the fire, but it’s not enough to issue an advisory.”
His tips for residents sensitive to smoke include staying indoors, staying cool and keeping hydrated.
While there’s no advisory for Vancouver, Metro Vancouver has issued one for the far eastern areas of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley due to wildfire smoke drifting in from the interior.
