Anime Revolution wraps up at Vancouver Convention Centre

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A yearly celebration of Japanese animation and pop culture wraps up today at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Anime Revolution — or AniRevo for short — kicked off on Friday. Organizer Can Ngo says the event has really taken off since it began eight years ago.

“Ever since we started we’ve been the fastest-growing and the largest [Anime convention] in the city. I think with the help of all the online streaming sites like Netflix or Crunchy Roll or even Hollywood it’s becoming more easily accessible.”

The celebration of Japanese animation and pop culture bodes various activities, contests, exhibits, panels, and performances. There’s a unique roster of entertainment.

“We bring in voice actors in from over seas, singers, DJs…up to our convention.”

Japanese voice actors Kappei Yamaguchi, Marina Inoue, Satsuki Yukino, Hitomi Nabatame were all in attendance as guest speakers, as was American voice actors Clifford Chapin, ProZD and
Sarah Wiedenheft of the Netherlands and Richard Ian Cox of Wales.

Activities of note include meet and greets, autograph signings, registered cosplay photo shoots, name that Anime tune, and the Convention Idol contest among others.

The convention wraps up at 5 p.m.
