A year later, still no answers: Family of teen found dead in Surrey alleyway hopes for an arrest

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A year ago, a teen was attacked and left to die in an alleyway in Surrey. Today, his family is still holding out hope his killer will be found.

Mounties were called at around 5 a.m. on Aug. 20, 2017 to a fight on 127A Street near 68 Avenue. Officers found 19-year-old Tanner Krupa dead.

Krupa was originally from Edmonton. He was not previously known to police.

Cpl. Frank Jang with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said police later learned that a group of men were involved in the fight that led to the death.

“Investigators believe some of the males in the group did not participate in the assault, but were bystanders with firsthand information about what happened to Tanner. This same group of males is believed to be associated to a white Toyota Corolla and a white Honda Civic that were captured on video surveillance.”

Jang said they still don’t know why Krupa was attacked and no arrests have been made. “It’s been a long year for the family. They’re eagerly seeking answers to what happened to their loved one.”

“There’s really no grief like it, having lost a loved one to murder,” he said. “The number one priority for us is to find those answers for them.”

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“Those males that were part of that group that was there that night when Tanner died… Look, it’s been a year. It’s never too late to do the right thing. If you have information, please come forward today and help us find some answers for his family.”
