Unsung Hero: Longtime boxing trainer volunteers time to help kids

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Congratulations to our latest Unsung Hero, Jay Peterson of Vancouver. He was nominated for the award by Carmelita Chan. Take a look at her story about Jay:

Jay has spent years working/training kids (completely unpaid) at the Boxing ring in Britannia Community Centre. I am not a boxer and I do not work for Britannia but I’ve known him for over 25 years and I know that he does this all for free because he has a passion for not only boxing but a passion to help the kids that come to the ring, many of them needing a healthy outlet for their aggressions.

He is the type of person who would not hesitate to do anything to help out a disadvantaged or special needs kid or anyone at all. Basically he’s just a fantastic guy that I think deserves to be chosen as an Unsung Hero.

Alpine Credits is acknowledging Jay with $500 to say thanks. It’s also donating $1,000 to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
