City of Vancouver and BC Housing to build up to 650 affordable homes in Yaletown

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The province and City of Vancouver are teaming up to build up to 650 non-market housing units in Yaletown.

Under the deal, Concord Pacific will transfer three sites in the former Expo lands to the city for these projects.

“These are urgently needed homes here in our downtown as the city is booming and growing and the supply of more affordable housing is always challenged,” said Vancouver’s outgoing Mayor Gregor Robertson. “And we’ve worked hard to deliver the housing for people who live here in our city.”

The units are intended for households with annual incomes ranging between $30,000 and $80,000.

Fifty per cent of the units will be set aside for families.

“Affordable housing remains a massive challenge, not just here in downtown Vancouver but right across the whole region and across the province. And this agreement shows the importance of engaging with out provincial and federal partners.”
