VIP movie experience comes to the North Shore

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – When you first set foot in the lobby of the brand new, 11 screen, Cineplex Cinemas Park Royal and VIP facility, you can see all the different facets of the Cineplex empire in one place.

“We have an arcade and family entertainment centre. I’d say there is probably upwards of 20 games there for you to play while you’re waiting for your showtime. There’s far more choice here and far more space and far more of the latest in technology, so this place definitely affords us that,” explains Sarah Van Lange, Executive Director of Communications for Cineplex.

“There’s an Outtakes Bistro, a quick-service restaurant with poutines and wraps and chicken nuggets and that kind of thing and then, of course, we have our famous popcorn and candy as well.”

Even the digital menu boards are owned by Cineplex.

“We now operate a business successfully across Canada and internationally, actually, called Cineplex Digital Media,” Van Lange points out. “We do not only menu boards, we do digital signage and content solutions for companies like A&W, Subway Europe, McDonald’s in South America, for some of the big banks…so that’s one element.”

The theatres themselves have 100 per cent recliner seating, there is an adults-only VIP lounge where you can order food and drink and even have them delivered right to your seat, pending approval from the provincial government.

“This lounge right now is fully-licensed. We’re working towards having our auditoriums licensed by the summer, in all likelihood. We’re going through the process and hope to have it up soon,” she says.

The West Vancouver venue essentially replaces Cineplex Cinemas Esplanade, formerly known as Empire Theatres, which closed on April 2nd.

“Guests are looking for experiences you can’t replicate at home and as you walk through this building, you ultimately see that.”

Van Lange doesn’t know what will happen to the North Vancouver site. “You would have to go to the landlord of the space to ask those questions. We are not privy to that information.”
