Man charged with murder in deadly shooting at New Westminster park

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – A 19-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting in New Westminster over the weekend.

At about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, gunfire rang out at Hume Park on E. Columbia St. When officers arrived, they found 20-year-old Robel Kinfe Abera had been shot to death.

A suspect was arrested near the scene.

The next day, Sam Jafroudi was charged with second-degree murder.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team believes the two men knew each other and this was a targeted hit. Police don’t think this is linked to gang conflict in the region.
