Port Moody pastor killed in crash near Peace Arch border remembered as kind, compassionate man

PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) – The man killed in the fiery crash near the Peace Arch border crossing last week has been identified as a Port Moody pastor.
Tom Cheung was the lead pastor of Port Moody Pacific Grace MB Church. Described as a kind, compassionate, and humble man, friends say Cheung was someone who “loved people” and was “always willing to help others.”
He leaves behind a wife and three children.
Cheung was the main breadwinner of the family. His death has put an emotional and financial strain on his loved ones, and in order to help, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up.
“This tragedy brutally took away Tom from the family he dearly loved and has dreadfully impacted on the family,” a release reads. “Friends of the family are now pleading for the public help to assist Athens and her children during this difficult time of their lives.”
According to the release, Cheung lived in Richmond with his family for many years after he immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in the 1990s.
He was killed after the minivan he was driving and an SUV collided near the border crossing on Thursday, May 2nd.
Witnesses described seeing one car rear-end the other, sending them both into the bushes before Cheung’s Toyoto Sienna caught fire.
The driver of the other vehicle, described by Mounties as a Porsche Cayenne, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but Cheung died at the scene.
