On Thursday a boy in the forest on Burnaby Mountain found “skeletal human remains,” which prompted an investigation by Mounties.

“The boy and his friend told police they had been building a fort when they unearthed the remains,” a release from Burnaby RCMP read earlier in the week.

Now, the RCMP says the body found might be linked to a 2015 missing person’s case.

“In March of 2015, a man went missing in Burnaby and his partial remains were found later that year near Forest Grove Park in Burnaby. This man’s death was not deemed suspicious,” Tuesday’s release reads.

The investigation is ongoing as Mounties wait for a thorough forensic analysis to confirm if the remains located are linked to the 2015 case.

“The BC Coroners Service is also conducting a concurrent, fact-finding investigation to determine how, where, when and by what means this individual died,” the release adds.

The missing man’s family has been in contact with the officers from Burnaby’s Serious Crimes Unit.
