CULTUS LAKE (NEWS 1130) — A 67-year-old Langley man has been charged after a motorboat collided with an Indigenous racing canoe on Cultus Lake last month, according to RCMP.
The collision occurred near Main Beach around 10:15 a.m. on July 29. The driver of the motorboat took off, while a person in the canoe found onshore, taken to hospital and treated for unspecified injuries, then released, according to Chilliwack RCMP Cont. Lucian Mares.
At the time, officers did not find the motorboat or the driver.
The man is charged with operating a vessel without due care or consideration under the Small Vessel Regulations of the Canada Shipping Act, according to RCMP.
“Waterways are busy with visitors from around our region sharing the outdoors in a variety of means,” says Cpl. Mike Rail. “Safety remains our priority and we encourage everyone to be respectful and aware of others sharing the area.”
