COVID-19 outbreak declared at New Westminster care home

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at a sixth care home in the Fraser Health region.

The latest is in New Westminster at the Queen’s Park Care Centre, according to the health authority.

It involves the acute care ward at the centre, but it is not known whether a resident or staff person is infected or how many.

Outbreaks remain active at five other long-term care or independent-living facilities in the region: Dania Home, Maple Ridge Seniors Village, Derby Manor, George Derby Centre and New Vista Care Society.

The Vancouver Coastal Health Authority lists one active outbreak, at Holy Family Hospital, which has had 21 deaths related to COVID-19 — the second most at any facility in B.C., behind Langley Lodge ahead of the Lynn Valley Care Centre.

The COVID-19 exposure list in Fraser Health also continues to grow, with one at Royal Jerk Spot Weekend Summer Fest Day and Night Rave, at Royal Beauty Supply on 105A Avenue in Surrey.

The exposure dates include July 21 to Aug. 2, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
