Burnaby restaurant break-in leaves owner scrambling to pay bills

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — It was a devastating night for the owner of an Afghan restaurant in Burnaby, as someone broke in and stole a register full of cash.

Reshad Dehzad, who runs Aria Kabab House and Grill, got an early morning call about a break-in from his security company and immediately went to check on surveillance camera footage to see what happened.

“They couldn’t open the cash register, he just took the cash register and he unplugged it and broke the wires, and he just ran away.”

The restaurant’s windows were smashed and Dehzad says it was incredibly unlucky someone chose last night to break in to his restaurant.

The father of four says he doesn’t usually leave cash in the register but he left the full day’s total on this occasion and he’s crushed by the lost income.

“I never leave the cash money at all but this was my first time in past five years and this thing happened.”

Dehzad says the man was about 5’10” to 5’11” and but was wearing clothing covering most of his face except his eyes. The man was wearing a hoodie and dark pants.

NEWS 1130 has reached out to the Burnaby RCMP for a statement.
