Three COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care, 167 new cases in B.C.

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — Three more long-term care homes in B.C. are dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks as the province reports 167 new cases.
The latest long-term care outbreaks are all in the Fraser Health region and include Evergreen Baptist Care Society in White Rock, Good Samaritan Victoria Heights in New Westminster, and Chilliwack’s Sunset Manor.

While outbreaks at George Derby Centre, Langley Lodge and Chartwell Crescent Gardens have been declared over, there are 17 outbreaks in long-term care and two in acute-care facilities.
There weren’t any community outbreaks to report, and exposure events are tracked by the BC Centre for Disease Control.
One more person has died from COVID-19, bringing the total to 254 since the pandemic began.
A day after declaring B.C. is in its second wave, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Deputy Minister of Health Stephen Brown said in a release that it’s up to everyone to decide what this will look like.
They urge British Columbians to keep up with personal protections and using “our layers of protection, no matter where we may be.”
“Let’s continue to support our neighbours, local businesses and communities, who are doing their part,” Henry and Brown said. “Take the time to reach out to friends and neighbours – in a safe way – to show them you care and remind them that while you may be keeping a safe distance right now, they are not alone.

Sixty-nine patients have been hospitalized with the virus, with 18 in intensive care.
There are 1,688 active COVID-19 cases in the province as 4,156 people are under public health monitoring after being exposed to someone with the virus. Since the beginning of October people under public health monitoring increased by more than 1,000.
Of the 11,854 confirmed cases in the province, 9,871 people have recovered.
