The NHL and Adidas have unveiled the ‘Reverse Retro’ alternate jerseys set to be worn by all 31 teams during the 2020-21 season.
It marks the first time in league history that every club will participate in an alternate jersey program. Per a release, Adidas said it worked closely with the NHL to design a jersey “representing unique and historical moments in each club’s history, while refreshing the colour and design combination for an all-new presentation.”
“Hockey fans love retro jerseys and Reverse Retro is a great opportunity for Adidas to work closely with the NHL and all 31 teams to bring back a design from a meaningful point in team history with a unique twist,” said Dan Near, Senior Director at Adidas Hockey.
“Our goal from day one has been to work with the NHL and all of the teams to bring creativity, innovation, and energy to the sport with all that we do. What better way to do that than to bring together the nostalgia of historical moments in each team’s history with something new via designs that have never been seen before in the sport.”
Plenty a fan favourite looks have returned with the Reverse Retro series, including the ‘Ol Blasty’ design for the Calgary Flames, a callback to the Quebec Nordiques for the Colorado Avalanche, the Minnesota Wild throwing back to North Stars colours, and more.

In Vancouver, the Canucks’ Reverse Retro jersey features a “jersey design from the past, remixed in different team colours to create something new and never seen before,” according to the team.
“The Canucks, who have worn seven logo variations and 21 different uniforms over 50 years, opted to redesign the gradient orca jersey, which was worn as an alternate from 2001 to 2006.”
