Hilton Vancouver Metrotown issues 72-hour strike notice

By

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — The union representing hotel workers at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown said Friday a 72-hour strike notice has been issued.

While it isn’t clear what all the issues are, a statement from UNITE HERE Local 40 says the notice comes after “mass firings of long-term workers” last week, with more expected.

“Hilton Metrotown has refused to recall their staff as the industry recovers,” reads the statement. “The firings will disproportionately hit women of colour, who have long served this hotel.”

Ninety-seven per cent of the workers voted in favour of the strike notice, the union adds.

No other information was provided, but the union indicated more details are coming soon.
