Four pipeline protesters arrested at Vancouver insurance building

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Some explosive scenes were shared on social media Friday after police arrested four people protesting the Trans-Mountain Pipeline expansion.
Activists had blocked the entrance of a Vancouver insurance office in protest of the company insuring the controversial pipeline.
Some had shared concern on social media that the police were too violent in their arrests. The protesters began to occupy the building’s lobby Thursday, and footage of police were shared Friday night.
The scenes captured and shared show protesters being shoved, yanked out of the building by their hair, and thrown to the ground.
The Vancouver Police Department has confirmed the videos will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Section.
The appropriate review of the officer’s actions will occur, however it’s important to remember that the 30 second clip fails to show what happened leading up to that interaction and what happened after. The clips do not provide complete context,” writes Const. Tania Visintin in an email.
The VPD said some people “expressed concern” for their safety while entering and exiting the building.
It was the third day of protests of insurance companies linked to the TransMountain pipeline expansion.
