Man crashes into, fights off coyotes in Vancouver’s Stanley Park

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A man is hurt after colliding with and being attacked by coyotes while he was riding his electric scooter in Stanley Park on Sunday.

Vancouver Police say the 44-year-old was riding a scooter on the seawall just before midnight when he and a coyote crashed into each other. The man fell from his ride and hurt his collarbone.

While he was laying on the ground, two coyotes started tugging at his jacket and clothes. The man punched one of the coyotes and flagged over a passerby to call 9-1-1.

Officers worked with Park Rangers and paramedics to help the man.

Conservation officers say if a coyote approaches you, try to make yourself look bigger, throw objects at it, and make lots of noise to scare it off. Coyotes are more active at dawn and dusk and park users should consider avoiding those times or not travel alone.
