COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – Two COVID-19 vaccine clinics in the Fraser Health region have expanded the age of eligibility for Tuesday, to include people aged 30 and up who live in a “high transmission neighbourhood.”
The drop-in clinics at the Cloverdale Recreation Centre in Surrey and at the Poirier Forum in Coquitlam are offering the AstraZeneca vaccine to people in that age group. It appears the age expansion only applies for Tuesday.
People who live in the following neighbourhoods are eligible:
- East Newton
- Fleetwood
- North Delta
- North Surrey
- Panorama
- Port Coquitlam
- South Langley Township
- West Abbotsford
- West Newton
- Whalley
To find out if you are eligible, you should go to this website and enter your postal code.
The two clinics are open until 7 p.m.
When word got out that the clinic was offering doses to people aged 30 and up, people rushed to the Poirier Forum. People were told to expect to wait for hours.
Still, people were willing to wait, with one man at the back of the line telling CityNews it is worth his time.
“You’ve got to trust the science. I’m not an expert. I go to the dentist for my teeth, I listen to the epidemiologists for the epidemiology,”
This man at the very back of the line says he trusts in science. Others near the back say they’re willing to wait however long it takes. Hearing from those waiting it could be about 4 hours @NEWS1130 @CityNewsVAN pic.twitter.com/Hmy9M9OP9d

In line at the Porier Recreation Complex to get my COVID-19 Vaccine. Was told two hours when I got into line, it has since grown a ton – but told they haven’t turned anyone away yet. #Coquitlam #COVID19BC @CityNewsVAN @NEWS1130 pic.twitter.com/qAZ78UULfX

People aged 40 and up across B.C. can also book with local pharmacies to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Registration is open for anyone aged 18 and up to receive a COVID-19 vaccine through the age-based program.
