KELOWNA (NEWS 1130) — A kitten was rescued recently after being thrown out of the window of a moving car on an Okanagan highway, and donations are pouring into the Kelowna SPCA to help fund the tiny feline’s care.
A Good Samaritan recently saw a car slow down, toss something out of the vehicle’s window, and then speed off, according to the BC SPCA’s website. When the person pulled over, they found a badly wounded, black kitten.
“They gently scooped up the seriously injured kitten to bring her in for urgent help,” the site says, adding the animal is only seven weeks old.
“She hit the pavement so hard that the skin on her tail was completely removed and her femur was painfully fractured. She also has scrapes and wounds to her body and face from the impact.”

The injuries to the kitty’s tail were so severe it will have to be amputated, and the broken bone will require surgery to repair. Staff at the animal hospital have named the kitten Ivy.
“Ivy is a fighter and survivor,” writes Sean Hogan, manager of the BC SPCA in Kelowna. “She has made great progress in a few days and though she’s a bit wobbly, she’s started to move around a bit more now that she’s no longer in pain. She loves to play with string toys and is eager for the attention from staff.”
After about eight weeks of recovery, Ivy will be available for adoption and she’s expected to have a “purr-fectly” normal life.
The BC SPCA’s fundraising goal was set at $3,500. In less than 24 hours, more than $25,000 has been raised.
