VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Looking to take the kids on vacation this summer? According to one doctor – exploring the province doesn’t mean your kids have to miss out on getting their jab.
School is almost out for summer, and that means some families are looking at booking and enjoying a vacation.
Dr. Birinder Narang, a family physician in Vancouver says now is the time to enjoy your time off – adding there are opportunities for kids to get their vaccines – even while out on vacation.
“If you’re travelling right now — and let’s be clear — the guidance right now is to stay in B.C. So, intra-provincial — staying within the province … go hard, have fun, be safe, be respectful of the communities that you’re going to,” he says.

If you want to head away, Narang says not to be concerned that your child might miss out on their vaccination.
“If you haven’t had a chance to get your kid vaccinated in the lower mainland, there’s nothing from stopping you from getting in the other health authorities,” Narang says.
While vaccination rates continue to climb, he says it’s important to continue to follow public health recommendations around mask wearing and social distancing.
“And I think that we need to remember that … [in] Interior health, there’s been such a focus that kind of drop in kind of low barrier clinics to really kind of help them out,” Narang says. “I don’t think not having your kid vaccinated should be a barrier to leaving the Lower Mainland, because there should be options close to where you’re going, and just make that part of your travel plans.”
