Delta firefighters deployed to help wildfire-ravaged Lytton

DELTA (NEWS 1130) — Delta fire crews have joined the growing list of local support sent to help in the B.C. wildfire fight in Lytton.
“We sent a tanker truck up there, it holds 2,500 gallons of water. Along with two pickup trucks with other gear and equipment for firefighting,” said Acting Battalion Chief Russ Smith.
He adds the equipment from Delta will help crews tackle building fires, such as homes and structures, rather than the fight within rugged terrain, such as brush and forests.

The six Delta firefighters are expected to remain in the area for at least six days, fighting the blaze alongside B.C. Wildfire Service teams, the Lytton Fire Brigade, and other municipal fire departments from across B.C.
Richmond, Burnaby, Kelowna and more have sent teams and equipment to the Fraser Canyon area since the wildfire broke out Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, the Kelowna Professional Fire Fighters Association said the call to bring more crews and fire trucks came in the middle of the night.
July 1, Burnaby’s firecrews also were deployed to Lytton, Chief Dave Samson said in a tweet.

On Friday, the BC Wildfire Service estimated the Lytton Creek fire had grown to 6,400 hectares. It remains classified as out-of-control, with the forecast expected to remain a challenge.
