An exciting exhibition came to Vancouver on Saturday, displaying both physical and digital copies of NFTs, a new way to present and trade art online.
The event took place at Monte Clark Gallery and was co-hosted by Kam Tabarraee of Cocktail Connoisseur. Guests could enjoy cocktails and music while they looked at the exhibition, featuring local artist Kiarash TK.
He unveiled his collection, “Dance of Shadows,” to help people get comfortable with NFTs — also known as non-fungible tokens. The technology provides digital creations a kind of certificate of authenticity, allowing ownership of something that could otherwise be replicated endlessly.
“Why can’t we bring that same experience and make it accessible for people and also contribute to something that is approaching very fast,” says Tabarraee.
“It’s the next stage of something that people care about: NFTs. We try to promote that we we don’t have to live by the feeling of, ‘Oh well, this is a small city and nothing happens.'”

People can buy NFTs using cryptocurrency. They sold a few on Saturday, says TK, priced between 1 and 7 ETH (Ethereum), or $5,500 to $40,000 CAD.
“I think that’s a very beneficial thing for artists because they can showcase and sell their pieces with more freedom, without having any middle-man, and it’s a better investment for the people who are buying it because they’re not only investing in the art piece and the artists, but also investing in cryptocurrency, which can help the value of the art go higher,” he said.
It gives artists a way to enjoy more creative freedom as well, he adds.
“I believe NFTs and digital art is the future for a different form of art than fashion, modern art, music, everything,” he said.
Tabarraee adds, “I’m a person who is passionate and tries to use art to create an experience … and I started thinking about how we could collaborate together to enhance the experience, use the arts, bring people together, use our connections, and just make this happen.”
Musicians also got to play for crowds there, including Siavash, Mkav, Askfor T, Madam Lola, Rene Luna, Qurantunes, and Nikzad.
In addition to his work with “Dance of Shadows” and the NFT showcase, TK is a fashion designer, NFT agency owner, grafitti artist, and band member.
Organizers are hoping to host another NFT exhibition in January.
