Pedestrian killed by vehicle in Surrey, RCMP continue investigation

Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood is the site of the city’s latest pedestrian fatality.
There’s not much known about the victim, although Surrey RCMP says they responded around 7:30 p.m. and found someone on the ground at 144 Street and 80 Avenue. First responders declared the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The victim was struck by a vehicle, and the driver involved cooperated with the police after the collision. However, there is no word yet on the possible cause of the crash.

“Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation TEAM (CCIT) with the assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is investigating this collision,” reads a statement from the Surrey RCMP.
While they continue to investigate, traffic on 144 Street will be shut down northbound at 82 Avenue and southbound at 79 Avenue.
Surrey RCMP are asking anyone with information related to the collision to call them.
