One person has died after a multi-vehicle crash in the Newton area of Surrey Tuesday evening.

Around 6:45 p.m., a driver “lost control and crossed the centre median and struck two other vehicles” on King George Highway south of Highway 10, according to the Surrey RCMP.

“The driver of the Lexus suffered significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at scene, while the occupants of the other vehicles are being treated for minor injuries at a local area hospital,” says a statement from police.

“Drugs/alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors in this collision, and the incident is still under investigation. The BC Coroner’s service has been engaged and is conducting a parallel investigation.”

Mounties are asking anyone who has information, or dashcam footage from the area, to contact investigators at 604-599-0502.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
