Canucks vs Kraken game postponed as NHL delays return to play

If you were hoping to watching the Canucks take on the Seattle Kraken at home in Vancouver Monday, you’re out of luck.

The game has been postponed, with no word yet on when it will be rescheduled to. This was set to be the first time the Canucks hosted the Kraken at home for a regular season game.

The NHL announced Friday that it would be delaying its return to play by one day, not resuming prior to Dec. 28. In total, the decision affects 14 games involving all Canadian-based teams.

It says it is giving the league more time to analyze COVID-19 testing results and assess each club’s readiness to resume play.

Teams will be allowed to return to practice on Dec. 26.

The NHL announced on Dec. 21 it was pausing its season through the Christmas break to try to stem the spread of COVID-19, fueled in large part by the Omicron variant.

The league said Tuesday it would not be sending its players to compete in the Beijing Olympics in February. This decision will allow them to use the previously scheduled Feb. 6-22 Olympic break to make up games that need to be rescheduled.

Another update is expected from the NHL by end of day Sunday.
