Woman arrested after multi-vehicle crash on HWY 1 in Abbotsford

A 33-year-old woman was arrested late Thursday and is being investigated for impaired driving after a crash involving four vehicles, the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) says.

Police say the collision took place on Highway 1 eastbound at the Bradner Road rest area around 10:30 p.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found several “heavily damaged” vehicles, AbbyPD says.

The woman, who was driving a red Chevrolet Spark, appears to have hit three other vehicles, including a semi-truck, police say.

Photos taken at the scene show the Spark with part of its roof peeled off. One of the other vehicles, a dark-coloured sedan, is seen with serious damage, missing a tire.

AbbyPD tells CityNews the woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite the heavy damage, the occupants of all the other vehicles sustained only minor injuries and did not need to go to hospital, police say.

“AbbyPD is seeking witnesses who observed the collision or the driving behaviour of the red Chevrolet Spark prior to the collision,” the department said in a news release.

“Investigators are also looking for anyone with any dash camera footage that may have captured the incident or the vehicle’s driving behaviour leading up to the crash.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 and refer to file 26-35609.
