B.C.’s daily COVID-19 numbers are showing a continued surge of the Omicron variant in the province, as well as a significant increase in the number of people in hospital because of the virus.
There are 469 total hospital cases, more than double the amount of people in hospital last week. In addition, there are 97 people in intensive care, up 38 over Monday. Several of them are unvaccinated young adults, according to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
There were 2,239 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, and three deaths.
The Fraser Health region saw the most number of cases on Tuesday with 807, followed by Island Health with 562, and Vancouver Coastal Health with 383. However, due to the strain on testing capacity and the limited availability of PCR tests these numbers vastly undercount the true number of infections in the province.

NEW: BC COVID-19 hospitalizations rise 57.3 percent in a week to 469 people. Over that same span, those in ICU rise 12.8% to 97. There are 36,087 active COVID cases, but due to BC's policy of test rationing, real number actually higher. #bcpoli #COVID19
