Marking one year since the disappearance of Trina Hunt

This week, the family of Trina Hunt marks the one-year anniversary of her disappearance, still waiting for answers.

The Port Moody woman was reported missing on Jan. 18, 2021, kicking off a massive community effort to find her. She was last seen on security camera a few days before she was reported missing. According to police, her husband came home and said she was gone.

However, her case took a tragic turn months later.

The 48-year-old’s remains were found in Hope on March 29, though investigators did not divulge the discovery until May 1. The case was reclassified as a homicide.

Following the update, Hunt’s family posted to a Facebook group, confirming the news “with shattered hearts.”

Months later, on June 1, they offered a significant reward — up to $50,000 — for any information that leads to charges or arrests in connection with her death.

“We know someone out there knows something or has heard something. Are you suspicious of someone or are you protecting someone? We need you to come forward. We need you to be Trina’s voice,” Hunt’s cousin, Stephanie Ibbott, said at the time.

Days after the family put up a reward, police once again turned their attention to Hunt’s former home, executing a search warrant at the house as well as that of her husband’s family in Mission.

Since then, no arrests and no further updates have been announced.

Despite a year of unknowns, Hunt’s family and friends have remained hopeful that answers will one day come. Vigils have been held for Hunt, and her loved ones have continued to share memories of the woman they dearly miss.
