Where is spring? Vancouver breaks nearly 80-year record for cold
It’s more proof that this spring has been a cold one for Metro Vancouver.
CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says Thursday broke decades-old records for below normal temperatures.
“If you thought it was cold yesterday afternoon you weren’t wrong — a dozen new records across the South Coast of low, high temperatures, including Vancouver setting a new record at 10.6. The old was 11.7 from 1945. West Vancouver setting a low record high temperature as well,” Kuss said Friday.

If the cold didn’t stop people from getting to a patio or gardening, the almost fall-like conditions might have.
“It was a chilly, wet, windy afternoon,” Kuss explained.
He says parts of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast also broke temperature records.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for snow on several B.C. highways, including the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt.
“Snow will continue this morning over the Southern Interior mountain passes as a trough of low pressure moves across BC. Snow levels will remain close to 1000 metres until the snow tapers off near noon. Occasionally heavy snow may reduce visibility. Be prepared for winter driving conditions,” the statement reads in part.

It’s unclear how many drivers will be ready for those conditions, as the province lifted its winter tire requirements for B.C. highways at the end of April.
