Surrey RCMP say man fell from Pattullo Bridge; IIO called in

B.C.’s police watchdog has been called in after Surrey RCMP say a man fell from the Pattullo Bridge last month. Mounties have also asked for help identifying the man.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) says according to the RCMP, they were called to the bridge at about 11 a.m. on May 15 over reports the man was at the railing.

“It is reported that while officers spoke to the man, he fell from the bridge and is not believed to have survived,” the IIO said.

Surrey RCMP have shared a forensic sketch of the man, created by an artist who worked with officers who were at the scene.

The man is described as Filipino, in his forties, and having a heavier build and thinning hair. He was wearing a black windbreaker, white t-shirt, and blue jeans at the time.

“Police are actively trying to identify the man who is presumed to be deceased, however his body has not yet been recovered,” said Cpl. Vanessa Munn with the Surrey RCMP.

“No missing persons investigations matching the man’s description have been located, but police believe that someone may recognize him.”

The IIO wants anyone with information about the incident to call 1-855-446-8477.

The Independent Investigations Office is called in whenever someone dies or is hurt during an interaction with police.
