The organization that oversees Canada’s national sport is losing more major sponsors in the midst of an investigation into sexual assault allegations against players of the country’s Men’s World Junior Ice Hockey team in 2018.
As of today, Swiss Chalet and The Keg have stopped supporting Hockey Canada, Recipe Unlimited announced.
Yesterday, the international public account firm BDO paused their partnership.
On Tuesday, Tim Hortons, Scotiabank, Telus, and Imperial Oil (Esso) declared that they were suspending their sponsorship, according to reports, according to reports from Joshua Clipperton of the Canadian Press.
“I was appalled by the recent reports of alleged assault involving younger ambassadors of Canada’s game,” said Scotiabank Chief Executive Officer Brian Porter in a statement.
Canadian Tire on the other hand went ahead and withdrew support from the upcoming world junior hockey tournament, Clipperton says.
After a woman alleged she was attacked by members of Canada’s 2018 world junior hockey champion team during a gala and golf event four years ago in London, Ontario, Hockey Canada quietly resolved the case last month.
The 2023 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship is set to start round-robin play on Boxing Day at Moncton’s Avenir Centre and Halifax’s Scotiabank Centre.
